The Australian Heritage Hotel

The elegant Australian Heritage Hotel has an equal mix of tourists to Sydneysiders and some of the best gourmet pizzas in the state. Cafe-style tables curl around the facade, there's long benches downstairs and a bed-and-breakfast upstairs, and the split-level bar offers a fine range of wine and beer. There is enough pub memorabilia to tickle the tourist's fancy after they've staggered up the side streets from Circular Quay, and a knowing budgetary nod to the Aussies with prices that they can appreciate without asking for the exchange rate.

Give the pies a skip, pizzas are the real deal here. Unique Australian meats used for the pizzas: crocodile was a bit bland, the emu worth a try purely for the novelty, but the pepper kangaroo pizza is beautiful! Soft and tender, melt in your mouth meat. For those who like a little Indian flavour, the tandoori chicken pizza is great (also available as a salad) and there are a variety of other tasty options but the undeniable winner is the TO DIE FOR morrocan lamb pizza! Can't go wrong with the seafood pizzas either. Pizzas are available in 2 sizes (I recommend going for the larger size - the small is, well, on the small side). Service and atmosphere is typical pub style comfort, so you can kick back after for beers, particularly in summer. Full house most evenings, so go early!
