Owner Chris Chamberlain may not be your average, classically trained French pastry chef: There's no air of pretension here, no starched, frilly toque bobbing in indignation at an off-piste request from a customer. But for Chris's local clientele (and anyone who has tried his breads), they wouldn't have it any other way.
The Artisan's Apprentice is a different style of bakery in all the right ways. Here you'll find artisan craft breads like 13th-century fruit loaf or an aromatic Angora honey and lavender bread, and instead of Soup Nazi-esque behaviour, Chris is more than happy to serve his wonderful creations by the loaf, half-loaf or even by the slice.
