Built inside the remains of a 19th-century chemist shop, The Apothecary 1878 is as elegant a bar as one will find. The interior designers of The Apothecary retained the old labels on the dispensary drawers where the chemist used to combine herbs and spices into tinctures and salves. Today, the barman combines liquor and juices into exotic cocktails and there is a tapas menu to ensure against overindulgence on an empty stomach. On Saturday afternoons, cocktails and tapas give way to tea and cucumber sandwiches, as The Apothecary goes a bit British and serves up high tea.

Really great dining
What a really great wine bar. I do not drink wine myself, however my friends that do raved about the great one.
That aside, the food was fantastic. Their fetta with toasted ciabbata was to die for. I absolutely loved it. For main i had the lamb, which was a nice cut of meat that was cooked really well, the sides for that dish werent the greatest however. For dessert i had the warm chocolate pudding. It was by far the richest most delicious dessert i have ever had. Its definitely not for the faint hearted (or the small stomached!).
The service was great, we had the same waiter throughout which i really love. He was attentive, and while being professional, he didn't mind to have a joke with us either.
A really great experience, i hope to be back soon!

A fantastic dining experience
I've just come from dining here...couldn't wait to rave about it. Firstly...I love the atmosphere of this place. You can tell how old world it is and its really nice. The nice bar man seated us upstairs in a lovely cosey area. He gave us ample time with the wine list and made helpful suggestions. I dined with two friends and we shared some feta and goats cheese with ciabatta to start with. I have never had such delicious feta in my life. It was delicious.
I then had the lamb. The lamb itself was fantastic - so much flavour. It came with polenta and a pickled onion salad...which were both quite ordinary. The polenta has absoloutely no seasoning, so once i added salt and pepper it was ok. The pickled onions were not for me at all - i didn't like the coldness of them against the warm lamb. That is my only complaint of the meal though.
For desert I had a panacotta - it was delicious and just the right size, not too big. My friends had the warm choc pudding which was verrrry rich but quite nice. For the meal we shared a bottle of red which was great.
I highly reccomend this place. The service was gret too.
