That Little Mexican Place Victoria Park


Out to show that there's more than meets the eye to Mexican food than burritos, tacos and nachos, That Little Mexican Place is now spicing up the salsa in both North Perth, and this second incarnation in Victoria Park.

'TLMP', as it's affectionately abbreviated, embraces a range of regional Mexican cooking styles as well as Baja Californian and lower Mexican Oaxaca variations. The menu runs the gamut from scallop, snapper and tuna ceviche to enchilada de barbacoa, a baked tortilla-rolled lamb dish topped with salsa roja (a chilli sauce) and queso fresca (a soft cheese). The all-day weekend brunch menu keeps a similar element of surprise waiting for TLMP visitors.

Great for brunch
A good mexican in Perth is pretty hard to find. This place was great and they do all day breakfast! Huevos Rancheros, which we always make at home, is one of the few that you might see on any other menu, but you are spoilt for choice here. I went with the scrambled eggs served with deep fried tortilla strips, jalapenos and peppers (don't remember the official name of the dish). The OH, after a lot of indecision, went with the crispy taco roll with pork. His was the stand out dish, it was sublime, a beautifully crispy, hand made, taco shell - and what a difference that makes - stuffed with lots of tender and crispy pork. The bottomless mexican coffee was also a winner.

Service was excellent, love the open kitchen in the front and I'd definitely return to try something else on the menu. About the only negative comment I would make is the sad state of the toilet out the back door.
