Very Good
My wife and I dined here on the recommendaiton of a number of friends. From the moment we arrived, the service was very attentive without being overly anxious. The restaurant itself is a beautiful space, although we were stuck in the back room.

Food was outstanding and was perfectly matched with wines. Tetsuya's signature dish was perfect and the reason we'd go back again, although we couldn't really fault any of the courses. Saying that, we found that choosing the matching wines with every course was excessive with the very generous servings adn woudl not recommend that unless you have an iron constitution.

Although pricey, it was better value than other places we've dined at and a great special occasion location.

Expect them to be out of the top 10 next year
Unfortunately the lure of going to one of the world's top restaurants is losing it's lustre. Don't expect this restaurant to stay in the world's top 10 for much longer.

The chilled corn soup with saffron ice cream started the night and was a good texture with a nice sweet flavour.

Smoked Ocean Trout & Avruga Caviar pumped it up a notch and was superb-the best of the night.

The Scampi was the first let down of the night. Too salty.

The signature dish of Tasmanian Ocean Trout was good but not spectacular.

Where it went all pear shaped was in the meat dishes. Spatchcock was terrible and once again too salty.

Grilled wagyu beef was atrocious. Dry and overcooked. I Asked for it rare and couldn't see a hint of red on the meat.

The worst of the night??? The Comte with Lentils. I simply could not even stomach this nor could the other guests. Why they even attempted something like this is beyond me. Take it off the menu to save the embarrassment.

Wait staff are good but the wine service is less than desirable. I ordered the matching wine menu to accompany my meals and all I simply got each time was the name of the wine and the region of where it was from. No explanation of why it matches the dish. In fact on several of the dishes I didn't get my wine until after I had finished my dish.

The price is too high for their meal
First of all, I was disappointed by the old dirty tablecloth! Also the table and the chair are very old as well and not nice. The five star restaurant shold be have nice quality table clothe and dining table set. Also surprised at old toilet. It was clean enough, however very old as hotel's (pub).

The meal: food quality is of course good, but price also excellent! So food is good is not surprising. (For the price, must be excellent food.) Each dish is too small portion.

Superb experience
I went with friends to a fantastic lunch and could not fault the food or service.
We were asked at the beginning of the meal if anybody had any allergies, dislikes, preferences and then our menu was constructed. It certainly was different from others in the restaurant, as other reveiwers have noted, because some diners had previously eaten certain dishes and so they varied the offerings to give some variety, new temptations.
The kitchen produced a superb array of dishes and even a special dessert of blue cheese bavarois that was made at the last minute, as it is one of my favourites, and wasn't on the menu.
The combinations of flavours and textures was oustanding, the quality of the produce was excellent & we left very well satisfied.
The wine list is well constructed, but even better is that they allow BYO - it is the best BYO in Australia.
There is no doubt that this is the best restaurant in Australia and well worth the price (especially when compared to other restaurants in the world's Top 10!).

Fabulous
This is everything you could ever imagine for 5 star dining. The signature dish and other mouth watering dishes make up some of the best food ever tasted. The service is friendly and so professional. Where does one go better than this is Australia? Nowhere!

Wasn't mind-blowing as everyone made out to be
A beautiful meal it was, but not as revelationary as I was expecting, or had heard from others.

At the beginning of the meal we overheard waiters telling other tables about the meal. At each table, the number of courses they stated varied from nine to eleven. Throughout the rest of the meal, we saw other tables get different courses to us. We were explained later that other guests may have different dietary requirements, which is fine, but when you're paying $186 per head, and someone is eating something that looks very interesting and you're not, then things can be confusing.

There was no menu or outline of the meal presented to us, so we were eating whatever they sent us. They did give us a run-down at the beginning of the night of each course and the main ingredients in case we had any allergies. They also told us we could request a particular meal if we had eaten at Tetsuya's before, but how can you remember ten courses explained by a waiter with no menu in front of you? We were given a copy of a menu at the end of the meal as 'souvenir', but that was completely pointless. At the beginning of the meal would have been better.

As for the food, it was very delicious, but I hate to say it, I've had just as wonderful meals for a more affordable price. Most courses seemed to have an ice cream or a 'foam' somewhere on the dish. Desserts were tasty.

Expensive - yes - but worth it
It's got the title of being one of the world's best restaurants - and deserves it. While it is very expensive, you're paying for an experience - not just dinner. You can't fault the service.

Oral orgasm
What a lunch! Well worth every penny and then some. The 12 courses with matched wines is not an every day, every week or every month activity but one that needs to be saved for a special occasion. The signature dish 'Confit of Petuna Tasmanian Ocean Trout with Konbu, Daikon & Fennel' was to die for and the service had nothing lacking. Two thumbs up!

A little overrated...
I took my boyfriend to Tetsuya's for Xmas Eve and the service and atmosphere were lovely. However, the food was average. The seafood dishes were nice but nothing extraordinary (no "Wow" factor) and the meat dishes were ok. I am a huge dessert fan and unfortunately, I found the deserts to be anti-climatic as well. There are other restaurants which offer degustations at half the price and with extraordinary food. I guess it's an experience - but I don't think we are in a rush to go back anytime soon!
