Modern tapas meets warm, European charm. Tapenade stands on a cobbled laneway just off Paddington's Five Ways with the Royal conveniently located across the lane for those awaiting their table. A French family has revamped the menu to give it a mod-Oz spin, although favourites remain in the shape of chorizo, haloumi and chilli prawns. The front room has a warm, European feel that becomes particularly inviting at night when candles are lit throughout. Well-worn floorboards and dark, cosy decor provide a character that many restaurants simply couldn't buy. Tapenade also boasts an ideal courtyard for lively evenings when sangria becomes the drink of choice and tapas really comes alive.

Eastern European atmosphere and mod-tapas flavour
The atmosphere of this little restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the flavour of each bite is yum. You have to try the chilli-flavoured prawns or the beans and chorizo dish, which both take simple tapas ideas into the 21st Century. I would recommend this place for either a romantic dinner, a birthday bash, or just a starting point for a Saturday night. The sangria is delightful, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is wonderful. The menu changes continuously as well, showing that this restaurant can never be bound to conformity. Those stars ARE NOT generous - they are accurate!

Absolutely the best
I absolutely love this place, it is by far the best Tapas in Sydney. The food is fresh and flavoursome and the atmosphere is just right to warm the belly. Perfect for anything from a romantic dinner to a fun night out with friends. The bill does tend to be more than your regular tapas bar though it is worth it!

The food was really tasty but quite overpriced in terms of portion size. Rushed out towards the end also. Overall disappointed with the experience based on the cost ($125 for two, two drinks each)
