Tapas Lola

The best thing about tapas is that each plate is so small, you can justify ordering multiple dishes - perfect if you have a short attention span, or just can't decide between all the delectable choices. On the other hand, if you just can't face a whole main meal, a tapa or two might fill the gap perfectly. Tapas Lola brings this sensible way of dining to St Kilda, with a wide range of Spanish-style dishes such as mint lamb with warm aioli or grilled chorizo. With the rich red walls, candlelight and a tempting range of Spanish sherries and wines, Tapas Lola is evocative of steamy nights in Barcelona - even during freezing Melbourne evenings.

Pleasant - But Teenie Tiny Portions
The service was good - the waitress was very nice and helful. The food was overall yummy. I went with 4 other girlfriends and we just ordered heaps of itme off the menu, but they were the smallest portions i ever had at any tapas before. We left hungry because it was getting late and we didn't have time to order-wait-eat more. It was a little annoying waiting for dishes - we did say we wanted everything around the sane time so we could fill out plates and start eating.
We had the calamari/squid, it came with this strange black sauce; but we couldn't pin point the taste.

The sangia was yummy, so was the fried mushroom dish.

very small portions!
Was looking forward to a great dinner with friends for my husbands birthday and unfortunately this restaurant did not deliver....the portions were miniature, the room was cold, the food was over priced, smallest prawns I have ever seen (more like shrimps with price tag of prawns). Overall very disappointing as the place itself is very cosy. Would not recommend!!!!

Disappointing
We had a disappointing experience at this restaurant.
Atmosphere: good. Service: we experienced several blunders but the friendly staff were apologetic on each occasion. Food: great but not enough of it!
Portion sizes were too small for the price. For example the garlic prawn dish ($15) consisted of five small-medium prawns. We did not receive the complimentary bread mentioned by another reviewer.

Great atmosphere, but that's it
Being a lover of tapas and having enjoyed these in Spain on several occasions, I had my hopes up for this restaurant. However, these were quickly dashed.

Having made a reservation, we were seated without menus, water or any drinks orders and left for more than 20 minutes, vainly trying to catch the attention of several waiting staff. On the whole, the staff were friendly, though clearly unskilled or apathetic.

The food was of a good standard, though quite expensive considering this was for regular tapas portion size: the $7-$14 guideline provided above is outdated, with tapas standards like jamon (Spanish prosciutto) setting us back $18 for a few shavings on top of a single slice of breadstick.

The location is great, and the atmosphere and ambiance of the place is lovely, which makes the other downfalls that much more of a pity. I would not bother again.

Great food, service and atmosphere!
Really glad I didn't let the previous review sway me. Seated by friendly staff and promptly served complimentary bread for two, which we didn't even request - must have seen previous review. Ordered several tapas which were top-notch, particularly the minted lamb - fantastic! Finished off with yummy churros and hot chocky. Will definitely head back with friends in tow for some more great tapas and service!

Disappointing
Menu of mainly meat-based dishes. No lettuce salad, just overpriced miniature avocado salad. No bread offered until requested - answered with reply of: "I'll have to check with the kitchen," only to return with one slice for four people.

Best tapas in Melbourne
I am extremely picky when it comes to Spanish cuisine, having visited those shores numerous times in my line of work, and I must say, I was extremely impressed with all Lola's had to offer in service, selection and overall, the quality and authenticity of their food. Obviously the owner, having been raised in Spain, knows a thing or 2 in regards
maintaining the integrity of the concept.
By far the best meal I've had in
Melbourne this year.
