Taka's Kitchen

A cult favourite with students and cheap-eat lovers from all over Perth, Japanese joint Taka's is a city institution. The canteen-like restaurant has a pretty high turnover, and it isn't really a fine-dining atmosphere, but the food (and the prices) more than make up for it. Judging by the number of people crowding in here on any given day for lunch (attracting city workers and shoppers, lunchtimes are particularly fast-paced) or dinner, it's no wonder it was voted the best Japanese in Perth.

Nice and Cheap
A heap of friends and I went to Takas Kitchen for a Thursday night dinner.
We liked the location and especially the price! A BYO restaurant in the middle of the city = great!
Some of the tables were wobbly, you sit on red plastic chairs and you do run the risk of sitting next to complete strangers during busy times. BUT THAT'S WHY ITS SOOO CHEAP!!
It's not fine dining, fine dining comes with a price.
My friends and I got our food one after the other, it filled us all and we had change leftover for a drink at the pub afterwards.
I read on another review that someone get sick after eating at Takas, there were 7 of us all up and none of us got ill.
This restaurant is great FOR WHAT IT IS.
I will go back again!

Great Japanese food at a great price
Had the chicken catsu, as usual it was awsome. although I was disappointed that they had replace the vibrating coasters with something that looks more like a hand-held Tazar. When it's busy the servings are smaller but still very cheap.

Good food at a bargain price
Taka's is good food at a bargain price. A large chicken karaage is $6.50 and that fills you up. Great place for an inexpensive lunch during work hours or after hours. In fact, I'm off there now after I finish this as I have a BIG deadline to get done. Atmosphere is mixed - generally during lunchtime it's packed. Communal eating may mean that the table for 4 is occupied by up to 4 strangers, but ‘strangers are friends that we haven't met yet’. Can't really go past this place for good food at a bargain price. I think a 6" sub and a drink is more expensive than most meals at Taka's.

Good Japanese that's inexpensive

The novelty of this fast food eatery is the little vibrating 'drink coasters' that you get when you place your order. They light up and vibrate until you collect your order at the collection station.....

The crowd is mainly backpackers, 'Harajuku'-reject girls in bad taste outfits and Oriental manga-boys in 'rangger' (orange-bleached shredded hairstyles)savouring their homestyle meals ranging from $4.50-$10.00 (eel on rice) for large main courses.

I enjoyed my experience at the 'kitchen' and will definitely go there again.
