Takagi Sushi
Word spreads fast when there's a new eatery in town and when it offers simple, healthy and freshly made dishes, people flock in the doors. Darwin was in desperate need of a good sushi bar and Takagi Sushi has filled the spot perfectly, slotting into refurb'd premises in Smith Street Mall. After renovating the shop space that formerly housed Louie's, this bright and modern sushi cafe is totally Japanese. The look is clinically clean and simple to the extreme. The decor features small modular tables and chairs, and stark white floors, with colourful floral bouquets positioned on the counter. Rather than complicating the menu with a hundred and one dishes, the focus is on freshly made, quality sushi, with the kitchen specialising in nori-maki (hand rolls). There is also miso soup and a small selection of noodles on offer, but diners are advised to stick with the hand rolls; they're fabulous, fresh and totally delicious. The staff are friendly and efficient, and their fast service comes in particularly handy when you're on a tight schedule at lunchtime.
