This restaurant bursts with vibrancy and character. Warm, earthy colours, tiled floors and beautifully presented dark wooden tables create a perfect backdrop for dinner with friends or a romantic date. During summer, diners spill out into the street. The menu features authentic Indian cuisine with an excellent selection of chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian dishes.

Not impressed at all. Disappointing experience.
I cannot qualify myself as a food critic but being an Indian food lover, this is definitely the worst experience. Please do not get me wrong, I love food in Adelaide and this is the only disappointment.
My partner and I ordered papadum platter as starter, samosas as entree, malai kofta and chicken butter masala as main, with eggplant raita, garlic naans and pulao rice. Papadam and samosas were tasty. When we tasted the chicken butter masala, we thought we had ordered chicken butter soup for the masala was tasteless and watery. The only description to fit it would be watered-down bottled sauce. And for the malai kofta, my partner described it as bland. Not much cheese or almond, just potato balls with flavourless gravy.
We tried to explain about the food to our waitress, who passed on the word to the kitchen. Not long later there was this guy who seems to be in charge glanced over our table, that was the only answer we had.
I wished we checked other reviews before made our way to this restaurant. Below take away quality food on dine out price. Total bill: $92 including 4 pure blonde beer.

Help Wanted
There were 11 of us squeezed on to a table for 8. We waited over 30 minutes for drinks after our arrival and then had to go to the bar and get them ourselves. Staff are sullen and slow and have no knowledge about the food they are serving. Food tastes great although presentation needs work. Finally, the restaurant tried to overcharge us (we had paid a deposit which wasn't taken off the bill)! Don't go when it's busy!!

Great food, dreadful service
I've been eating at the Taj Tandoor for the better part of 20 years - back when they were in Light Square. The food is genuinely pretty good and the serving dishes (the copper pots and so on) are a treat; however the service always has been a bit doubtful. If you have entree and main course, you'll be forgotten thereafter - bad luck if you need to be somewhere else, or you really fancy dessert. Don't let that put you off, just be warned.

Lovely Authentic Indian
We strolled by the Taj and were drawn in my the aromas floating out of this open-plan, well laid out restaurant. As people that have travelled to India we are pretty picky about our Indian but Taj gets the thumbs up! We dined on dhaal (thick and heavy), prawns (in lightly spiced coconut, tomato and onion sauce - around 12 medium prawns), malai kofta (potato pattie in almond sauce, raita and rice.) All dishes were delicious. I particuarly loved the prawns - partner loved the malai kofta more which is usually my favourite Indian dish. Service was unobtrusive but pleasant. Good wine selection and outdoor dining available. Left very satisfied (and full)
