Salona

There's a gorgeous feature wall at this Greek restaurant depicting an old city on a hill. The tables are linen-clothed (including the ones outside) and the open frontage allows the afternoon breeze inside. The mixed mezedes are a great way to sample the entrees - and are enough to feed a couple of people - with choices such as dolmades, octopus and saganaki. The mains include traditional offerings such as moussaka; lamb or chicken skewer grills served with salad; and plates of whiting or white bait. Desserts include baklava, halva and Turkish delight, and there is a small range of Greek wines to complement the usual list.

Veggie heaven?
Actually, it is not too bad for veggies.
Fantastic staff who advised on the size of the meals. There are three vegetarian entrees and one main. The main didn't appeal (risotto) as it was a hot day, so the waitress advised that a couple of the entrees would suffice - and she was right. Really hit the spot. The meat eaters will be satisfied too. The lamb forequarter was so tender it fell from the bone -excellent.
No room for dessert though. Oh, the Greek beer "Mythos" is pretty good too!

Better than Athens
On a hot January evening, Salona was a great place to sit a while, drink a chilled white wine (from the moderately-priced wine list with enough choices to please most palates and wallets)and enjoy authentic Mediterranean mezedes, followed by Giros and a generous Greek salad. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. The open-air frontage onto Swan Street allows the cooling breeze in. Salona is open for service earlier than most of its neighbouring restaurants in the Swan St. strip, which enables an early meal, suitable refreshment and a leisurely beginning to a night out at the tennis or theatre. Highly recommended. Servings are on the large side, so it's a good idea to lash out on entrees and share a main course. You won't manage dessert. Come back later, when your appetite returns. The coffee is excellent, too.
