Sydney Showboat Cabaret Dinner Cruise Disappointment
We had been so looking forward to doing this dinner cruise, it looked gorgeous on the website and we were lucky enough to have gotten a 50% discount when we booked. We were one of the last groups to board at 7.30 and our entree platters were already on the table waiting for us where it looked like they had been sitting for half the day. Luckily they tasted better than they looked although the roo salad was barely 3 short strips of roo meat to share between two. The waiter brought the wine out but didn't pour it for us, apparently they don't do that. There were five mains to choose from but none sounded overly appetising. I chose the chicken with shitake potato salad which sadly turned out to be an overcooked slab of chicken breast with a bit of cajun sprinkled on top plonked on mashed potato with a few mushrooms in the mix. I'm not much of a cook but even I could have whipped that up. Others at the table had the trout which I'm told was nice if not a little bland, but the green salad was really slack, mainly rocket leaves. The dessert platters were fine, the tiny piece of tirimasu was yummy. And then there's the show, which we didn't realise didn't start till an hour and a half after setting sail. When they advertise a world-class cabaret show it's kind of disappointing to sit there and watch what is not much better than a high school performance. Unless you have absolutely nothing better to waste your money on, stay home.
