Sushi Goi represents the new breed of sushi train slowly emerging in Sydney. The prices are still limbo-stick low, but the polished decor makes this much more than an in-and-out diner. It's still a bustling sushi train in every sense of the word, so it may not be your first choice for an intimate first date, but it's leagues ahead of your average takeaway joint.
Some say that decor is the least important part of a restaurant, but it's the first chance to see what a place is made of, and as first impressions go, Sushi Goi performs admirably. At the very least, it's evident that this restaurant takes pride in its presentation.
Once your eye moves past the ornate wooden carvings and Japanese lanterns to the rotating selection of eats, Sushi Goi loses none of its polish. The kaiten (conveyor belt) is kept well-stocked by the team of bustling sushi chefs in the centre of the restaurant. Choices won't blow your mind if you've been to a sushi train or two in your time, but the quality and consistency of the seafood preparation is among the best in the area. Rounding out the offerings is a short, sharp selection of decadent cakes, whose richness more than lives up to the promise of names such as mortal sin and oreo mousse.
