Supermaxi

For many modern Italian food lovers, the "super" in Supermaxi is probably an understatement. Indeed, chef Rita Macali, formerly of Fitzroy's much-loved Italian stallion Ladro, has taken a simple and refreshing approach to Italian cooking. This is illustrated in her enticing menu of thin-crusted pizzas, creamy pastas and meat mains (including veal and steak), which are all infused with plenty of heart and soul. The concise wine list is designed to complement Macali's food menu, and it naturally showcases the best of Italian vino. Meanwhile, the dining environment itself is as modern as they come, with crisp, white high ceilings adorned with spindly hanging lights, and practical wooden chairs and tables, adding to the bright and homely aesthetic.

I'm not sure what the hype is about this place is. I do very much enjoyed Ladros, and when I heard about the old owners opened in my neighborhood- I was excited! The new restaurant now occupies a large space, with large windows but I felt really claustrophobic inside. My pizza wasn't great (tuna), but my husband's-sausage- was good but not amazing.Being in an area that has great pizza-okay, doesn't cut it, especially when they charge $17-$22 per pizza. The only thing that I found 'new' was the fact that they named their pizzas-bianco(white)-without tomato sauce & rosso(red) with. We shared a dessert, but it wasn't remember-able.....
In all, tried it-NEXT!
