Summit Restaurant

Run by the same proprietor since 1983, this terraced restaurant has spectacular views across the ranges to Moreton Bay. The menu is an eclectic hybrid of international influences with a strong emphasis on local produce, including dishes such as the grilled fillet of beef topped with Moreton Bay bug, a truly decadent version of the classic surf and turf. The lunchtime menu offers lighter, lower-priced dishes that still retain the same quality as the more sophisticated dinner offerings. There's also a Sunday breakfast buffet with an extensive hot and cold selection of brekkie favourites.

An enjoyable evening
As a local couple, we took a couple who were visiting from 1000k away.
The venue was perfectly located to entertain 'out of towners', with an excellent view of Brisbane.
They were delighted with the view in the afternoon sunshine and more impressed with the evening view when the city lights took over.

We chose from the Sunset Dinner menu. The three course meal was not large, however it was sufficient. The four of us were happy with the food presentation, preparation and taste.
There was a large selection of wine available and it was a little pricier than we are at used to.
Being early in the evening meant that there were few customers present. Thus, the restaurant was quiet, the staff was very attentive and our meals were served in a timely manner.

We agreed we would meet here again on their next visit, which indicates that we all had an enjoyable experience.

Atmospheric Dining Experience
Opted for the romantic dinner package for 2 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Our table next to the window was set up with silver heart-shaped confetti strewn on it, with a complimentary box of 4 chocolate truffles. The sweeping panoramic view of the city lights of Brisbane added to our dining experience.

For starters we had champagne cocktail, followed by the chef's appetizer and entree before the main meal (crisp skin Atlantic salmon), followed by a yummy assortment of desserts, and cappuccino. The meal portions were smallish but well-presented and delicious.

Despite it being mid-week, the restaurant seemed busy enough and grew to be somewhat noisy as the evening progressed. The staff were friendly and pleasant, although the service could have been a bit quicker.

Overall, it was a most memorable night out.

Have we been to the same restaurant?
Can't believe most of these reviews as I have been many times to the Summit and had attentive service and some wonderful meals there. My partner often takes business colleagues there and has never had a complaint. Particularly enjoy the sunset menu for $36 for 3 courses. Some might complain that the main is too small - but I find it just right for me as I can't usually eat 3 courses as mains are usually too big. Certainly beats the mediocre to downright bad food I have eaten in Paris!

Terrible!
Our experience early this month at Summit Restaurant mirrors the majority of online reviewers disappointment with the service and food at Summit Restaurant. These reviewers unhappy comments are also reflected in media critiques of Summit Restaurant.

The free view (and there are other Brisbane restaurants with great views) is simply not worth the cost of dining at Summit.

Brisbane has many great restaurants where you are guaranteed a wonderful dining time, but, from our experience, Summit Restaurant is not one of them.

Great! Sad that most only post to complain :-)
Before dining at the Summit Restaurant I decided to read the reviews to ensure we were making the right choice for dinner for a special occasion. It was the birthday of 3 family members in that week so we were celebrating times 3. I was disappointed to see a lot of poor reviews, but having worked in hospitality myself for many years I am well aware that most will complain more in this format than praise. With this information at hand I was well prepared for a possible disappointment with our group of 9 people for dinner on a Saturday night, which I can imagine is probably one of the busiest nights of the week, and thus probably when most things could go wrong!
The restaurant is quite big with high ceilings and there was a wedding function in house and it was quite full, so it is very noisy... so it was definitely not a relaxing atmosphere but it didn t take too much away from the experience.
Right from the beginning our wait staff were attentive, took our orders promptly and weren t overly friendly, but professional. Being a large table we were very impressed that all our meals came without much of a wait at all, all at the same time, and were delivered to the correct individuals without query.
The food does seem a little expensive but you are paying for a wonderful location in the cost. The city lights are magical at night, and if are seated near to a window it could be a very romantic spot, or if you are in the hustle and bustle of the rest of the large restaurant it is still a fun atmosphere for a bit of a louder party.
In conclusion, if I enjoyed myself I vowed to even up the poor comments, and tell everyone what a wonderful time I had, and that I did! The food wasn t complicated but it was very tasty. The entrees were especially tasty and a good size. We had lovely wine, and a very nice (albeit, a bit noisy) time. Commendations to the wait staff who looked after us wonderfully, even when it was clear that the restaurant was so busy :-)

What a disaster!
What a disaster! First Brisbane Lookout Summit Restaurant's site does not provide an online booking facility (you must ring), so I, being a busy person, looked further online and found an online email service which automatically addressed my email to Brisbane Lookout Summit Restaurant. The response from the person came only after an unreasonable and unprofessional time delay. That was a sign that I should have stopped, because obviously there was inadequate communication between this booking receptionist and the restaurant staff, because on the day, most of my groups' requirements were not met.

To make things worse the food was of poor quality and no one at Summit Restaurant seemed to care. Therefore my advice is, enjoy the only thing worthwhile on Mt Coot-Tha - the magnificent city views - by eating takeaways from your local shop as you sit under the open skies, away from Summit Restaurant.

Six adults and two children dined here to celebrate a 60th birthday. After a wonderful limo ride, and being on a high the meals did not live up to the standard you would exect when paying $40. The meals took an extremely long time coming - the children had falled asleep and we hadn't eaten.

Five of us ordered Grilled Wagu Rump Steak (300g) with sauteed diced potatoes, green peas, backon with caramelised onion compote and red wine reduction.

All meals were lukewarm, the steak was like a brick on top of very few sauteed cold potatoes. The sauce was cold. The offer from the staff was that they could reheat. How long would we have to wait for the meal to come back - we had already waited long enough. This was acknowledged by the staff who bought us complimentary bread. I and others certainly didn't want to wait for them to recook another piece. They took two entrees off the meal, offered desert which was useless to us as we had bought a birthday cake with us and then offered us free coffee.

The evening was spoilt - view is spectacular but the food service poor.

Nice view: shame about the food
Our breakfast experience at Summit is an extreme example of "The better the view the worse the food". Buffet breakfasts are rarely good, but usually not this bad either. Particarly noteworthy are the inedible sausages, the sloppy, near-inedible scrambled eggs, the undercooked bacon, the cold/stale pastries and the tacky cartons of juice on ice. Our table rocked like a boat, constantly spilling juice. Thank goodness we dined with a voucher and didn't pay full price.
