Sitting high atop Australia Square, the aptly named Summit Restaurant offers one of Sydney's truly unique dining experiences. Slowly revolving 360 degrees over one of the world's most beautiful harbours, the view here is nothing short of breathtaking. However, Summit is anything but a restaurant where you pay just for the view. Executive chef Michael Moore's modern and innovative menu would be just as popular, perhaps even more so, if it were served in the most humble of diners.
Therein lies the secret to the success and longevity of this restaurant, which has been at the (literal) peak of Sydney dining for more than four decades. Despite covering all the basic tenets of haute cuisine, it is the accessibility of Moore's menu that truly sets it apart. The signature twice-cooked pork belly with glass crackling, crab, a radish and apple salad, vanilla apple marmalade and balsamic toffee is at once a stunning display of cooking technique and a dish that tugs at your nostalgia for the classic combination.
Similarly, the tapas range in the Orbit Bar offers the same artisan flavours found in the restaurant but in a more casual environment. The selection of three imported cheeses on the tapas menu - a French brie, a Spanish murcia al vino and a UK Colston Bassett stilton - is a rare departure from the mantra of local and seasonal produce at Summit, but it is definitely a welcome one.

Wow view, service and food
The food and service are of the highest quality, and wow that view. It was 31 years ago since I was last at the Summit, my parents saved for us to go, and experience one (if not the) tallest building in the southern hemisphere at that time. I now remember how fantastic that view is and will become a regular at the restaurant and Orbit Bar.

Great views
We enjoyed our recent lunch at The Summit as part of 'Let's Do Lunch'. The main meal servings were a little small but the dessert plates made up for this. The 360 degree views of Sydney are amazing thanks to the 1970s design of the rotating restaurant.
