Being in the Shire and right on the beach, both restaurant and staff are quite laidback, although Summer Salt could never be mistaken for anything other than an upmarket establishment. The dining room is set out in simple, unobtrusive tones of white and charcoal with soft lighting, crisp linen tablecloths and glass and silverware that sparkles. Floor-to-ceiling windows display the beauty of Cronulla Beach to its best advantage. A la carte and degustation menus are available and combine fresh seafood and meat with Mediterranean and Asian flavours. The Szechuan salt and pepper squid with lime aioli - a favourite of many of the locals - is a must for an entree, while for dessert, nothing beats the Baileys and butterscotch schnapps brulee with tiramisu ice cream - well worth an extra hour or two at the gym. One of the most fabulous aspects of Summer Salt is their incredible range of cocktails, which make the restaurant very popular with female patrons, especially for birthdays and parties. Their signature mix is called - of course - the Summer Salt, and consists of apricots, strawberries and lime, with Absolut Citron and Absolut Mandarin vodkas. Absolutely nothing beats it.

We have normally had fantastic meals at Summer Salt in the past But this changed last weekend. We had a table of 10, the set menu was sadly lacking in choice, pork belly(very fatty)which is a shame.

Summer Salt review
Summer salt is normally the most consistent and pleasing restaurant within the Shire however at our last meal the food was seriously below par... The seafood tasting plate for main was a mismatch of foods that just did not complement each other. The scallops were awfully drowned in a very nanna-ish curry sauce, the sushi rolls were nothing I couldn't get at any decent sushi train and the prawns were a little more than a prawn cutlet. The fish was ok tasting although very sweet but the presentation of the fish I found strange. The tasting plate for entree had some outstanding flavours on it. The menu to me is not as fresh tasting as it used to be with far too many mixed flavours involved. It was a real shame as the Shire does lack a top quality restaurant, here's hoping it was a one-off and the next change to the menu will concentrate on the fresh flavours which made Summer Salt so loved.

What the?
Venue and food was fantastic. Service was non existent. Wine was ordered but not poured throughout the meal. Meals when finished sat on the table for over twenty minutes and half an hour after dessert was cleared, I practically had to tackle a waitress to ask for the bill.

Summer Salt Restaurant
What a fabulous night out with friends. The friendly staff have got their act together, which is so refreshing. The lime souffle with raspberry sorbet was world-class and the ocean trout with Moroccan eggplant was a taste sensation.

A wonderful venue with warm staff who were eager to please. The cocktails were a favourite among our group especially, the Summer Salt. The seafood roulade was the overall favourite and the main reason for booking again (absolutely amazing). The salmon for a main was exceptional and perfectly cooked whilst the banana tart for dessert was the definite winner. It was a delicous meal with breathtaking views, thoroughly enjoyable.
