Sugaroom

Located at the water's edge by Johnston's Bay, Sugaroom is a stylish restaurant/lounge that offers skilled mod-Oz food at unusually restrained prices for its prime harbourside locale. Entrees are $12, including steamed Tasmanian mussels in a tomato, saffron & chardonnay broth, and mains stick to $23 -- think salt-crusted spatchcock with a pink peppercorn jus; or baked jewfish with slow-roasted tomatoes, prosciutto and balsamic. You can also snack at the bar with a duck liver parfait or any of several gourmet pizzas (eg, pumpkin, Kervella goat's cheese and spinach).

Great NYE find
We booked 9 people for NYE this year and we were very impressed. The food was delicious and the view of 3 sets of fireworks simultaneously was a winner. Loved the Elderberry Jelly 'amusee bouche' and my duck main was very tasty indeed.
Didn't really want the secret of this great restaurant to get out, but there it is.
(At night you can't see the car park!)

Lunch
Went to Sugaroom for a birthday lunch with work, work colleague suggested the venue and it was absolutely perfect! Whilst the view isn't too exciting tt was a gorgeous sunny winters day so looking out over the water was fantastic. It started off quiet but the food was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. Looking forward to experiencing it at night!

Great goat's cheese tart for entree, followed by the lamb cutlets for main, but the caramelised apple tarte tatin was the highlight and worth the wait. Impressive food without the price tag - 3 courses with sides at around $70 per person and BYO.

Perfect afternoon lunch
What a find! Went with a friend for a girly lunch, and for $80 a head (including tip), lazed our way through pre-lunch cocktails, wine, pork belly and scallops, goats cheese tart, crispy skinned barramundi, chocolate parfait with vanilla bean icecream and several of the most delectable sourdough breads. Very friendly, stylish, unfussy, relaxing. Perfect place to relax and enjoy a perfect Sydney afternoon. A definite find.

car yard view
Went to Sugaroom before going to The Producers at Star City - the place wasn't busy and the food was definitely good. Service seemed a little on the slow side given that we were one of only a couple of tables in at the time. Pity that the place looks across the harbour towards the parking lot full of the new cars directly off the boat - but Jackson's Landing is still fairly cool.
