With a cheery green and white striped awning sheltering a scattering of three-legged stools, the exterior of Sugardough feels like it has been transplanted from a quaint country town to the comparatively cosmopolitan streets of Brunswick. The interior does nothing to alter this illusion. The small space is filled with square country-kitchen chairs and framed by cool, pistachio-green walls and multiple racks of fresh breads. A steady stream of customers flows in and out of the bakery, taking away an inevitably larger-than-intended bag of breads and sweet treats. Customers can snag a seat at one of the little tables for a light meal - a pie, baguette or perhaps a steaming bowl of soup - or munch on one of the gooey pastries and teacakes with an espresso coffee.

Bliss at the Dough
I have been coming here for a long time now and have never been disappointed. It has been very consistent. My biggest mistake was telling too many people about it. The staff are the icing on the cupcake being friendly with a quirkyness that is unique to Sugardough. The best item amongst many has to be the Creme Brulee which in my opinion would have to be their signature pastry but why would you tamper with such a winner by creating a chocolate version is beyond belief. A word of warning do not stop off here on your way to the naturopath even if it is on a tram stop.

Tres fab!
The women who work here seem to never tire. They work fast without being rushed. They are friendly and unobtrusive. The pastries are heavenly. The breakfasts, although simple, are packed with flavour. I've had the breakfast pie and the poached pears on ciabatta and at both times I've walked out of the cafe beaming with satisfaction.

The sweetest place.........
I fell in love with Sugardough about six months ago when I moved to Brunswick East. There are a few reasons why. Firstly, the excellent quality, freshness and deliciousness of the food both sweet and savory. The owners run their eatery with creativity, passion and an understanding of real quality food. (Organic flour for their breads and always the best free-range eggs available!). Secondly, the darlingly sweet atmosphere, busy as it can be, it is so so quaint and lovely. Especially during the week for a brunch or afternoon tea if you have the time. Third and finally, they make the best damn spanakopita I have ever had in my entire life!! Not to mention the European hot chocolate, which after trying almost everywhere in Melbourne, is simply the best. It is not too sweet or rich, nor too creamy and presented in oh such a cute way... perfect! So many lovely things to choose from... Fresh daily soups, goulashes and other specials. Cakes and sweets to enjoy every bite of (mmmmmm the cupcakes!).. breads and pastries and doughnuts with jam or custard or even chocolate..... the list goes on.. savoury delights so so good. Anyway, I have told everyone I know about how much I love it at Sugardough and I hope everyone who gets the chance to read this stops what they are doing immediately and goes directly there! Damn shame they are not open at this moment as I am feeling like a vanilla cupcake so much:-) Sugardough is just fabulous.
