Conveniently located in the heart of the Adelaide CBD, Sugar Cane Vietnamese Restaurant brings a sense of calm and cool to workers in need of a tranquil escape. Indeed, this elegantly fitted eatery is a sleek and modern diner that facilitates pure relaxation that you'll experience on the large wooden deck by the soothing water feature, or inside among the warm timber and bamboo-infused interiors. It's quite a large space, though your intimacy is certainly not threatened.
On the food front, Sugar Cane's modern Vietnamese menu boasts temptations like fresh rice paper rolls; the Sugar Cane prawn balls with sweet chilli sauce; and a wide range of meat, vegetarian and seafood soup and salad delights, including the noodle-lovers' Vietnamese favourite, pho.

CHINESE NEW YEAR
Fabulous food and great service. Excellent Menu and looking forward to going back and working through it. We enjoyed the Chinese New Year show. The place was packed! Everyone ended up dancing at the end of the night. One lady sang opera. It was all good. The six of us are all World travellers and have been to Vietnam, Asia etc and we find the food delicious. Go and try the Sugar Cane, take your own wine, you'll like it.

Authentic??
I had sudden craving for Vietnamese food this afternoon and decided to do a little online surfing to check out the reviews on vietnamese restaurants in the city centre. Sugar Cane was the name that constantly came up with the online search. With that, I decided to give it a go this evening with my folks. The decor was ok...not overly done up as with most asian restaurants in a foreign land. The bamboo decor was a little tacky but not an overkill (thank goodness!). No thumbs up for authencity for the food though it was relatively tasty. The menu was a potpourri of vietnamese, thai & chinese dishes which left me puzzled if I had actually walked into a vietnamese restaurant...the restaurant does boast of serving authentic vietnamese food (in mandarin) on its signboard! The entrees of fresh prawn & pork rice rolls, vietnamese sang choy bow (lettuce wrappers) and prawn ball were acceptable and not unlike its counterparts I tasted in Vietnam. We also ordered the Salt & Pepper Fried Flounder which was tasty but in my opinion is more chinese than vietnamese. The XO Long Beans was rather sweet and I couldn't taste the XO in it (pardon me, perhaps I need further clarification...does the XO refers to a certain hard liquor or simply the XO sauce??!)
It was a tasty meal albeit an interesting one...
