The decor of this tiny eatery may be plain but the classic Malaysian cuisine coming out of the kitchen is anything but. The Hainanese chicken rice, char hor fun and Assam laksa are standout dishes that Nyonya enthusiasts travel from all over town for, many of them claiming this is the best laksa in Melbourne (honourable mentions to the amazing char kuey teow, which is a top seller and Straits' bread and butter). Some make a special trip here for the fresh kueh (Nyonya sweets), which include black rice in coconut milk and bengka kueh (a rich, golden and moist cassava cake that is the highlight of a meal here for the sweet-toothed).
