This beautiful cafe has a divine selection of foods, including an additional tapas menu. The real treat, however, is that the dinner menu is changed on a weekly basis - definitely an enticing tactic to encourage patrons to attend regularly. If you are brave, and you should be, then you can order a four-course meal - the chef's special, packed full of sumptuous surprises and reasonably priced.

Lota! Who'd have thought...
My iPhone guided us to the Stella Star Cafe and I was quite glad that it did. This eclectic venue in the back blocks of the not-so-swish end of bayside Brisbane was a genuine surprise.
It's a converted corner store that has the rustic italian 'feel' down pat. We were warmly welcomed into a crowded little room filled with noisy diners. Big tick for atmosphere. The menu is quite small, but our research said it changed weekly. We chose two starters and two mains.
Both starters, one with arancini and polpette and one with grilled haloumi and mushrooms, were good although we both felt they were a little salty - even for haloumi. The mains were a rabbit dish and gnochetti in ragu. Neither of us would have ordered these if the menu had said they were 'al forno' - both were served in baking dishes out of the oven and weren't great choices for a steamy Brisbane summer night. Having said that, neither of us left any on our plates and our verdict - both good, but not great. We shared a beautiful chokky mousse for dessert but both left our espressos undrunk (well burnt and bitter).
All in all, service was good with extremely pleasant and competant staff, food was well paced and definitely better than we expected in the wilds of Brisbane. Maybe a little on the expensive side for this style of food - around $120 for two.
