Disappointed
Went for Anniversary dinner - Although only few diners we were put on a very small table in the corner - and as states before the worst thing was paper over the table cloths. The service was dismal, we had to wave at the staff everytime we wanted anything. The food was fantastic though. The prices of wines ridiculous. The actual premises set up was fine for a cafe but not for a 'special' dinner

Star of Greece rocks
We've been going to Star of Greece for years and always have a fabulous time. The staff are always accommodating of our desire to enjoy aperitifs on the balcony and have a down to earth attitude that is refreshing. Star of Greece is not what you get in the city and should be appreciated as such. In the past we may have booked late and got a table not facing the ocean, and at times been left to our own devices to top up our wine (though we never BYO - they have an extensive drink selection), it's never been an issue. We prefer service to be relaxed, informed and friendly, not over-attentive. Likewise, we have never been unpleasantly surprised by the bill because the prices are on the menu. Nor have we ever left hungry since we always order enough food (entree, main course and sometimes dessert; the way the menu is structured to be eaten). In short, we wish there were more places in SA like Star of Greece.

Extremely disappointing. Beware!
Lovely setting I must say, beautiful day & view (although we were not facing the beach!). Half an hour after arriving, had to approach waiter for service. He was most rude & even seemed as though we were putting him out! He spilt a drink on a customer's lap & failed to apologise!

Menu was very limited (nothing stood out)and all meals (especially for lunch) were hugely overpriced. Need a lunch menu. All meals were tiny (nine chips were served with 'fish and chips')and included no side dishes, such as salad, bread etc. Waiter was arrogant throughout the whole experience. We returned home very hungry!!

Bad service, Bad price
We went to the star of greece for lunch. The first thing I saw was butchers paper for table cloths! We had to wait a very long time to served. Then I had go to the bar to get my drinks as they were obviously under staffed. The food was very poorly presented and was a very average taste. Then the bill!! It was 3 times the price I have paid anywhere else for the same meal.
I will not return.

fish and chips but definately no salad!
Went for a drive, stopped for "fish and chips". Now, the view is FANTASTIC!!! Anyone who loves the seaside will love this setting. But, the food was a big let down. I ordered "fish, chips and salad" when I queried "where is the salad?" I was told "the salad is only a piece of lettuce and some lemon".... dubious, I thought, but the said lettuce never did turn up, and I don't think a wedge of lemon constitutes a "salad". My friend had a greek salad, as no other gluten-free (coeliac) option was available, the fish could not be grilled and the chicken burger was crumbed. The salad itself was fine, but the serving size was TINY, and for $8, very expensive. It was in a plastic tub, little bigger than a small yoghurt container, and really was a small snack, rather than a meal. But as no meal was available for the gluten -free, I shared my chips, and off we went. The staff seemed very flustered, and while it was fairly busy, this was hard to fathom, and not very welcoming. Would drop in again for coffee or a soft drink, but not for lunch.

Exceeded expectations
Read a few reviews before we went and so did not have very high expectations. Food was fantastic, the service was awesome and the setting, casual but really comfortable. No way did we think it was overpriced. The whole experience was great and we will definitely go back.

Not what we expected
Went to this restaurant for dinner in April..yes the view is great, however, we only enjoyed that for 10 minutes before the sun set.
This place is more a kiosk charging 5 star restaurant prices! Main courses are priced from $28 - $35, wine $9 a glass, had to pay extra for bread rolls... There is butchers paper on the table!!
Main courses were small serves & salty.
Overhead they store boxes & toilet paper - spoils the atmosphere a bit!

We found the tables so close together we felt that we were all sitting in one group. The tables had lovely white table cloths only to be covered by a sheet of white butcher's paper. We took our own wine and we had to pour that ourselves. There was no real vegetarian choice, just the one meal. The food overall was reasonable, the whole thing would have been ok but not at the prices they were charging - $15 for a dessert and $26 for three bottles of still water we thought was a bit over the top. As the main meals were priced at $28 to $35, I would have exspected at least to see bread rolls and water on the table. Good views out to sea if you happen to get a table that side of the restaurant.

Definately a night to remember
Enjoyed every moment. Food was excellent, beautifully presented, innovative and a taste sensation. Scallops were so tender - melt in your mouth. The Coorong sirloin beef cooked just right. Service was great. Waitresses friendly and very helpful. We shared our entree and dessert as we wanted to experience the flavours. The staff were more than happy to accomodate.
Definitely now on our list of favourite places to go whatever time of the year.

Thanks goodness for the view..
because the rest was a disappointment.
We were essentially left to serve our own drinks, having to open and pour 3 of our own bottles of wine ( we BYO'd), as we basically only saw service staff when food was ordered and delivered. The food was reasonable, but not at all worth the price.
The view is beautiful, but not enough to make up for the other shortcomings.

Worth the trip
The food was fabulous, especially the lamb rump and the snapper, even though I found the menu a little short. The views are unbelievable, only wished I'd sat closer to the window. Its a little too squashed in there, felt a tad claustrophobic. Service good but I've experienced better. It was a hot day (36) and the airconditioner struggled - not great. Overall I'm looking forward to returning, probably for a special occasion. Love the fact dress is casual.

Didn't quite live up to the reputation
We went hear as a bit of a splurge for a birthday celebration after hearing many great reports over the years. Little bit disappointed for the price we paid. Mainly - limited seafood (I was perhaps incorrectly expecting more) and no main vego dishes. Mains are also reasonable small (yet rather pricey). Wine by the glass is expensive ($9) but there is an extensive range of bottles with prices to suit most budgets.

Overall I wouldn't be rushing back and if I did I would go for lunch when I could enjoy the views more as I think this is what you are paying for.

Loved it, will always return. Service was excellent.. food was brilliant...

Have never had a better experiance at a restaurant. Each and every staff member ensured we were well, and allowed us time when needed, bright faces, beautiful girls. Just amazing.
