Sri Melaka offers a wide range of traditional Nonya Malaysian cuisine, including plenty of vegetarian versions of classic dishes. Diners can pop in during the week to sample such dishes as sesame honey prawns or Szechuan paprika fried chicken, or graze the menu at the buffet table on Fridays and Saturdays. For those who are tempted to recreate some of the vegetarian creations as home, the Vegetarian Market next door stocks the soya products used in Sri Melaka's dishes.

Interesting
We went for dinner on Sat night- last minute decision, just driving past. No booking was needed. Restaurant was about two thirds full. There was no buffet on offer, and it looked like the buffet table was just used for storage. We did not actually realise this was a vegetarian restaurant, and were a little baffled by the "chicken", "lamb" and "prawn" dishes on the menu. Had to ask the waiter who explained that they were soy products. Intrigued, we decided to stay. Service was shocking. We were ignored when we arrived, and then people who walked in after us were seated first. Seated in front of the door on a freezing night, we moved ourselves to the back when a table was vacated. We then sat amongst dirty dishes for about 15 minutes. We had brought our own wine but had to wait 10 minutes to get glasses, and had just about finished the bottle by the time our order was taken. Anytime we were served, it was because we just about tackled the waiter. We finally got food about an hour after we arrived. Anyway, despite the shocker service, the food was actually a delightful surprise. Ordered the "chicken" kapitan curry, a "lamb" paprika, A noodle dish with "prawns" and some spring rolls. All were delicious. I was amazed how close in texture the lamb and chicken were to the real thing, and with the delicious sauces on them, I'm sure many people would think they were eating meat if they did not know. Anyway, not sure we would be back to dine in, but would definitely consider this place for a take-away. Prices were reasonable too.
