Having a big sign announcing your speakeasy (by definition a clandestine, illegal drinking den) makes about as much sense as a scheduled and orderly anarchist meeting; however, transgressions against pedantry aside, this contemporary kitchen and bar is still one of the better-quality additions to South Yarra's dining scene in some time.
Traditional French bistro classics make up the majority of offerings at Speakeasy, with a premium placed on quality produce. This uncompromising approach to ingredients allows relatively simple dishes to speak for themselves on the plate. A similar commitment to quality extends into the vast selection of prohibition-era cocktails, premium spirits and diverse wine list.
