From its cute name to its diminutive size, everything about Sparrow is friendly, comforting and has that indefinable element that makes it all Bondi.
The pet project of French-trained chef Patrick Moritz, Sparrow somehow manages to combine all the best features of a Parisian cafe - from it's simple but high quality food to its rich and creamy coffee - with the mismatched vintage furniture and exposed brick rustic-chic touches that define Bondi's small bar scene. Most remarkably, Moritz manages to do all this without a kitchen to work out of, which makes the smoked salmon on toasted Turkish bread with two poached free-range eggs drizzled with lemon and Tabasco hollandaise all the more amazing when you try them.
Of an evening, Sparrow slips seamlessly from friendly neighbourhood coffee haunt to local wine bar. The wine list is truncated but well-rounded and with the exception of a few choice French vintages, all are available by the glass for quaffing alongside a generous antipasti plate.
