Grandma's out of town and her crib has been taken over for the party of the century; at least, that's the look they seem to be going for at this funky bar and diner. Mismatched antique lamps, 1950s armchairs, wooden booths and retro burnt-orange laminate table tops are thrown in with wall art, DJ decks, graffiti and assorted knick-knacks.
Upon entry, the food menu is just as adorably kitsch, with a rare "brunch" menu available until 3pm featuring items such as the "hair of the dog that bit you" bloody mary, or the Jamon Remedy (a ham and gruyere melt, covered in bechamel sauce, oven-baked and topped with a fried egg). From the dinner menu, try the signature dish, the Hoppin' Johns Stew, made with ham hock, black-eyed peas and hot sauce.
The drinks menu is very respectable, with a range of vintage cocktails, fine wines and boutique beer available.
