Cue the big brass band and get the feet stomping; Sydney now has a restaurant dishing out favourites from south of the Mason-Dixie line. Replete with the Southern regalia of gingham tablecloths, red and green walls and the essential accoutrement of Tabasco sauce bottles, South Restaurant will make those keen on slow-braised barbecue weak at the knees.
Also on offer are some lesser-known Southern delicacies such as fried okra, and crawfish (the American version of yabbies) pie. Better yet, the pulled pork sandwich featuring succulent pieces of slow-braised pork shoulder and a lavish side of coleslaw will please true aficionados of Southern barbecue with its nod to authenticity.
For dessert, homemade pumpkin pie will delight diners already acquainted with this American Thanksgiving staple, but the fruit cobbler and banana pudding are sure to also satisfy, particularly with an added scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream.

Not Quite Nigella - "The item that many daydreams were made of arrives, and true to form, they’re meaty and fall apart soft. Cutting them apart is easy, just the gentlest nudge is needed after an initial knife cut. They’re soft, saucy and flavoursome and as good as the first rib I had last time."

I can't wait to go back!
As someone from the American South living in Sydney, I knew I had to go here the minute I saw the menu. I wound up taking my fiance for his birthday.
The food is absolutely outstanding, and made me a little homesick. The interior decoration and overall atmosphere is definitely reminiscent of New Orleans. I just wish the place were a little bigger! It's definitely on the small side.
