After 26 years with one owner in the same location, it's the small innovations that keep customers coming back to Sorrento Restaurant. The menu contains a solid array of authentic Italian breads, pastas, risotti and pizza, with regular specials enlivening the staple classics. With many dishes available as both entree and main, diners can customize their meal to suit their appetite.
Wine enjoys a strong focus here, with the list being split into three sections. There's a regular list including wines by the glass, a cellar reserve list containing a range of exclusive wines (look out for big-name drops such as the Penfolds Grange Hermitage), and a specials list offering bottles to suit more lean wallets. Sorrento has even done a deal with their namesake winery in South Australia, launching new vintage wines from the vineyard, from an unwooded chardonnay to a dry-grown grenache or a sangiovese.
Tuck yourself away inside the homely restaurant and peer out through the many archways and wrought-iron gates, or plonk yourself down outside for all to see. And keep an eye out for the next innovation, be it a temporary offering of market-fresh crayfish, or a special Grange tasting evening.
