Once you make it past the pint-sized parking lot there's a lot to like about Sonoma bakery cafe. The coffee is Single Origin and worthy of the queues out the door. The communal table is just the place to pick at a crispy almond croissant or shiny apple Danish and flick through the papers. If you're after something more substantial you'll find it hard to ignore the house-made muesli; a Bircher-style concoction topped with yogurt and rhubarb slurry, which conveniently comes in cup or bowl size. Toasted panini with bacon, egg and red pepper relish are equally as tempting.
At lunchtime the tartines happily take centre stage. These slabs of sourdough and blistered gruyere hide a treasure trove of either ham or mushroom. Tips for young players: there's a growing culture of parking others in, so if you need to scurry in a hurry it's worth keeping an eye on your car. The other trick you may soon learn is that it's worth grabbing a loaf of soy and linseed to take with you - you may regret it if you don't.
