Just a quick walk down the road from its older sister, the bubbling stalwart Soda, this beachside diner may sound like a tanning salon by name, but the majestic marquees that shade the breezy ocean-facing deck tell us otherwise. Yes, Soda Sunlounge is a fizzy new addition to the North Beach dining landscape, that's for sure. Luckily, the menu cleverly caters to those laidback afternoons where doing nothing is everything. Share plates, pizzas, burgers, salads, cheeses, cakes and brunch fare deliver plenty of nourishment, complemented by freshly squeezed juices, frothy Grinders coffee, fruity cocktails (the peach bellini sounds particularly good) and, of course, local and international wines and bubbles.

Great for a Sunday lunch
We made a last minute decision to go out for a Sunday lunch, and after reading a few reviews decided to give Soda Sunlounge a go. Because we hadn't booked we ended up sitting inside, near the bar, which was still quite pleasant. We studied the menu and decided on the share plates, of which we ordered 4, sweet corn and manchego frittas, feta stuffed artichokes, caramalised duck tacos and the lamb empenadas. They are all a bit overpriced for the size (they're basically tapas), but the flavours were spot on, accumpanied by a few beers and followed by some lovely sweets, a great lunch. Service was good, the girls were friendly and attentive, and our glasses didn't go dry. If they drop the price of their share plates down to a tapas price, I think they'll find themselves even more popular.

Are you a bar? A restaurant? A cafe? Still deciding?
Popped in here for a bite to eat and a drink after reading good reviews. I think they are still finding their feet to fit in with their liquor licence (which is "restaurant") so a substantial meal must be purchased if you wish to consume alcohol. We had a large breakfast that day so only wanted a small lunch with some bubbles for a special occasion. We bought some plates to share of calamari, olives and chips. The calamari was ok, it came with some very nice aioli. The chips were a little bit overdone. The olives were also tasty. Unfortunately this meal was not substantial enough to be able to purchase any alcohol which defeated the purpose of the visit. I think I might return in a year or so once they've sorted themselves out.
