Restaurant Information
Soda
Bright, casual and as effervescent as the name implies, Soda embraces the inevitably laidback vibe of their beachside (within throwing distance of the surf) location, while still managing to amp up the food and service to a more upmarket standard. Open from 7am, early risers are met with a satisfying menu of brekkie favourites, from pancakes with lemon butter to a full fry-up. The popular talents of chef/co-owner Ben Andrijasevich appear most strikingly in the lunch and dinner menu. His myriad influences and passions are displayed in such intriguing dishes as the soft shell crab with sticky rice and nori salad, or the chicken and pancetta with a potato cake, tomato, bocconcini and basil pesto. Alternatively, for a relaxed afternoon snack overlooking the water, tuck into one of the share platters over a bottle of cool, crisp wine.

Stunning presentation!
The location is great, just opposite North Beach. Having booked ahead, we had a table inside but by the window (it can get pretty windy and cold even on a bright day!). The atmosphere was noisy, buzzing and fun - 12.30 on a Sunday, it was packed! Clearly a local haunt, kept on the lowdown.
The service was pretty poor, our waiter having forgotten drinks several times and not advising us of proper waiting times. That said, each dish is so decoratively constructed, so indescribably beautiful in presentation that I was prepared to disregard service.
I had the special braise which was beef cheek and I love a place that does a good beef cheek and well! Looking around at all the satisfied customers, it seemed you couldn't possibly choose a wrong dish; there were so many happy faces. The menu is interesting and surprising, offering Spanish churros for dessert! Such an absolute delight.
I was completely blown away by this little eatery! Again sometime soon, soon to be a summer favourite I'm sure.
