Armed with an uber-cool moniker and a funky modern space, Snow Pony is a much-needed cafe addition to the Balwyn landscape. With artworks on the walls, and striking industrial light fittings hanging from the ceiling, Snow Pony offers many nooks to crawl into, from its main room's little tables and long communal wooden table, to the cute spots in the back room and patio areas. The menu focuses on fresh and organic ingredients wherever possible, including the free-range chickens, eggs, ham, organic bread and lamb and freshly foraged mushrooms. The baked organic lamb "polpette" meatballs with tomato sugo and smoked mozzarella are an especially good way to enjoy the fruits of such organic and ethically-sourced labours.

Does anyone work here?
I had high hopes for this place, as it was local and used organic produce - unfortunately, those hopes were dashes fast. We walked in and asked to be seated at an outside table that needed to be cleared, the waiter said he would be right behind us. 15minutes later no one had come to clear the table or give us a menu. I had to go inside again, and then wait another 10minutes. But although the dirty plates were cleared, the table was not wiped down and it was disgustingly dirty and sticky. The cutlery and glasses were also dirty and our food took a while to arrive. Once it did it was ordinary at best - my toasted bread was so hard and chewy that I gave up trying to cut it. Shame.

The Barista(s) here are fabulous* and every time i receive a coffee it is always presented with a smile from the friendly staff. For someone getting into black coffee by means of a 'strong 3/4 latte', their single origin blend keeps things fresh and interesting. Knowledge on the origin and characteristics of the blend are in no short supple either. Staff are very knowlegeable, attentive and enthusiastic. Lovely.

A good find for the area
I stumbled by this place walking my baby so stopped for coffee and cake. I only allow myself one coffee a day & boy was it worth it - very smooth & creamy...I definately plan to come back as the breakfast & lunch menu looks fabulous & reasonably priced. Also it's a great atmosphere with interesting artwork throughout.
