Making toast of all the hideously overpriced sandwich counters in the CBD, former accountant Peter Loxton's Size Matters Eat Station charges by the centimetre. For a three-centimetre sanger, you'll pay just $2.25, but if you want to pig out and go the full 30 centimetres you'll need to hand over $15. There's an art-lined basement area in which to eat too, once more trumping the more pedestrian sandwich counters littering the CBD lunch-scape.

Beyond great
I am very fussy about my coffee and can only tolerate one or two places in the city. Then I found Size Matters, and I can't go without it. Consistently brilliant, really really really good (so are the sandwiches, love the corned beef & appreciate that I can have it cut to the size I want as I eat like a rabbit). The staff are wonderful and always know what I like, I think they do the best coffee in the city.

A Cut Above
What makes Size Matters stand out is the guys who run it. Peter and Jo seem to be there because they want to be there. They are happy and chatty and know the names of what I am sure is an ever-growing band of regulars. And to top it off they do make a mean coffee, the breakfast fare is great and the soups rock. They've simply got it right. They take a real pride in what they do; this morning Peter thought the banana bread was not up to scratch (he'd sold out of his usual supply and was on an emergency ring-in) and would not let me have it, rather insisting I had the superb fruit bread. Go there. You will not be disappointed.
