Sitar West End

Enamoured with the old Indian favourites but seen enough samosas and butter chicken to last a lifetime? Sitar restaurants offer a tantalising alternative for serious Indian fans. The aroma of spices and the authentic feel to the simple furnishings hit you as soon as you enter the door. While still offering familiar favourites (with a twist), alternatives such as tuna bora (pan-fried tuna patties with mashed potato and traditional herbs and spices) and prawn malai (a mild curry from the coastal regions of India made with coconut milk and fresh prawns) are too good to be missed.

Good value, tasty food, friendly staff.
I've eaten at Sitar twice recently and it seems to have changed (perhaps a management change?) since the reviews of several years ago as our food arrived promptly. I have dietary issues and the chef at Sitar has twice cheerfully made me a custom meal - thankyou! Both times the friends with me (a different group each time) enjoyed their meal too. Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and a decent beer list including a gluten free beer. We had minor services issues - one wrong meal was fixed quickly without hassle and I had to ask for a beer twice before it was brought - but they were really minor problems and if you're looking for perfection go somewhere more expensive. It's great food at a good price and I felt welcome. I'll be going back.

5 Stars for Sitar!
My husband and I and 2 friends recently dined at Sitar West End and had a fantastic experience! The first thing I noticed was the ambience, we loved the bohemian atmosphere right in the heart of West End. It was interesting, inviting and a feeling of intimacy with your dinner companions has been successfully created... The lighting was low, music subtle, the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and other diners went undetected. It really felt like we were in our own "little India".

We chose the Deluxe Banquet. The entrees were delicious and served very quickly. The tandoori chicken was to die for. The servings were a decent size and devoured quickly! We had a bit of a wait before our mains arrived, but it was a busy Friday night and we were enjoying some good wine with friends so we didn't mind. The wafting smell of gorgeous curries made the wait a difficult one, but when our mains arrived my taste buds were in overload! Our table quickly became crowded but the waitress was very accommodating and brought us another table!

True to their word, the curries were delicious and spicy with plenty of heat. It's nice to have a medium curry that packs a bit of punch. The butter chicken was divine, and the naan bread is probably the best I've ever had. The servings were large and we had trouble getting through it all. Being curry lovers, we have had many insipid flavoured curries that leave little to be desired, however the chefs at Sitar West End have excelled at creating authentic Indian curry.

We loved the night, the food and wine both superb... Our whole dining experience was a pleasure.

I invited 14 friends to this restaurant for my birthday dinner. To make things easy for the staff (or so we thought) we all ordered the banquet. One hour later they came back to say that two of the house specials were unavailable. Two hours later our food came out by which time everyone was too drunk to enjoy it. No apologies were ever offered.

What a shocker!!!
Had the worst experience. Not only did we wait 30 minutes to get our drinks and menus, when we finally got our food after an hour, it was bloody cold!!!

Staff were polite but no apology was made when I made a complaint about the food and service.

The customers next to our table had the same experience and nearly walked off without paying.

It seemed a shame to leave with such a bad taste in the mouth on Valentines.
