Paddington locals flock to Simpatico Bar Bistro to engage in Mediterranean-style dining in cool and casual surrounds. The kitchen serves up modern Australian and European-influenced dishes, presented in a form that's ideal for sharing, making for an intimate and fun way to dine. However, unlike some other tapas restaurants, Simpatico offers generous portions that allow diners to enjoy rather more than the usual single bite each of such dishes as the slow-roasted pork belly, braised beef cheeks, and freshly made gnocchi.
Kenneth Bryce works hard to create seemingly effortless dishes, showing off the prowess that helped him win the accolade of Chef of the Year in the 2005 Lexus Young Chef Awards. With value apparently a key theme, the dishes can be washed down with affordable wines from a list of the owners' favourite tried-and-tested wines.

Beautiful Taste, but only a taste
Went for a birthday dinner with a couple of friends and had a really nice night. Drinks are great (don't order the cocktails if you want something quick) the food was beautiful but very small. Great for the waistline! I understand it is a tapas restaurant, but $20 for 4 scallops! They were lovely scallops though. Great flavours, but you may have to make yourself a sandwich when you get home!

My favourite restaurant in Brisbane at the moment
Have been here a few times now and the food is the most divine I've had. I don't find the servings small at all (I guess I've always realised it's supposed to be a tapas-style restaurant and really, the servings are larger than normal tapas anyway). To me, because they're not main meal servings is all the better as we get such a great variety of food in the one sitting. The food is truly exquisite, fresh, light and filling all at the same time. I would take anyone here for some good quality, heavenly tasting dishes. Last night there were 3 of us girls and we had the goats cheese tart (absolutely melts in your mouth), the barra which is a must, the beetroot and persian feta salad (heavenly), the gnocchi with braised lamb (superb) and the pork belly. I can't tell you how much we enjoyed the food. The staff are always so friendly too so we girls had a really fabulous catchup last night. If there's one restaurant I hope stays exactly as is in Brisbane, it's this one.

Great food, but still hungry!
I had lunch at Simpatico today and it is a great atmosphere, but definitely the 'ladies lunch' place (kind of like how Cha Cha Char's in the city is for the boys lunch!). It was filled with lunching ladies (if you didn't drive a BMW or Mercedes, your car might have felt out of place in the parking lot!). Anyhow, the food is simply delicious and very well presented. However, if you are hungry, this is not the place to dine. This is more sampling (tapas) meals that are well presented, but not much on the plate. Even one plate per person would not be enough (eg not like Asian restaurants where you might order meals to share). These are all entrees to share, so I would recommend two plates/items per person. A bit pricey too, for the size (average $12 for these mere samplings). But definitely delicious and ideal for a gourmet lunch with the girls!

Simply delicious
Had a lovely light lunch with my mother. We selected the seared scallops served on wakame, the cured salmon on feta and zucchini fritters with a yoghurt sorbet and the pear, blue cheese and walnut salad. All of the dishes were light, fresh and very tasty. The size of meals were standard entree size so a choice of a few dishes is recommended. I will definitely be coming back to Simpatico to try the truffle-infused risotto. It smelt amazing. The food and setting were very pleasant.

Not for the hungry
Simpatico is great for the atmosphere, especially an older crowd. But don't go there if you are hungry. I have had tapas before but the sizes of these meals were shocking in comparison to the prices. Although the meals are small, they seem to be well made with quality ingredients.
