Longrain's brand-spanking-new offshoot is tiny, cheap, accessible and quick to get you in, fed and out - so basically the opposite of its famous big sibling. What's not so different is the standard of the food. Sure, it's a short, changing-daily menu of quick, canteen-style curries and salads, but it's still Martin Boetz's signature modern, fresh Thai with the emphasis on the best ingredients available. The look is concrete-clad military-urban (hey, don't shoot the messenger; it sounds random because it is) and the vibe is bustling and fast-paced, with a produce store selling all the Longrain paraphernalia you can poke a stick at. A sure-fire winner with the Surry Hills work-lunch crowd, Shortgrain is worth a look-see for sure.
