Shinjuku

This friendly neighbourhood Japanese restaurant has a following of mostly locals who pop in for a quick meal, or pick something up to take away. The sushi is fresh, clean and tasty, and the seafood is cooked to perfection. The crowd is usually an eclectic mix of locals enjoying the reasonable corkage prices for BYO bottles of wine, and the atmosphere is relaxed and low-key.

Shinjuku
Food was not bad; not great, but not bad. Entrees and sushi was quite acceptable, one of the mains I ordered was seafood. That was probably a mistake, as the seafood wasn't very fresh and had a strong fishy smell. Likewise, the squid was very tough, almost crunchy, which is never good. Everything else was quite okay though. Not sure I'd want to go back for seafood, but everything was fine.

The gyoza was nice
A friend of mine who has recently returned from a trip to Japan and I decided to see if we could find a decent Japanese restaurant to frequent having both been thrilled with the food in Japan. Shinjuku has a strange seating arrangement with the look being authentic Japanese seated on the floor in front of low tables, Except that you are actually seated effectively on a step with the floor sort of empty below you under the table. I found it fairly uncomfortbale and would have been happier seated in the traditional japanese way. Our entree of Gyoza was lovely and my main (gyudon) was adequate. A nice meal but we won't stop our search just yet.
