The wide variety of shark fin dishes on offer at this Chinatown eatery may not be to everybody's tastes, but there's plenty on the menu. Besides, it's worth a trip for the fresh seafood alone, plus the huge selection of traditional Chinese meat, noodle and rice dishes. You'll need to book as it's a well-known and very much-loved institution.

Sharkfin is a great experience
Sharkfin House has got to have the best Chinese food in Melbourne, especially yum cha! My family love the food that much we have made it our weekly treat! The restaurant is pretty popular so you really need to book, only negative would be there isn't much room to take a pram but if you let them know when you book, they will give you a table where it will fit.

Yum Cha
The service was pretty good but the food took a long time to arrive, and when it did, it was hard to distinguish between the different priced items, as their carts carry a variety of foods from 'small' to 'super supreme'. Quite often I ordered what I thought was a 'small' dish and it turned out to be one of their 'supreme' items. The variety of food they have is quite impressive though, however it is quite average - not bad, but I stepped out feeling a little ripped off.

Yum Cha
I booked a table for 6 for yum cha and they told me that they have 2 set lunch times. One at 11am and the other at 1:30pm so we decided to go for the 1:30pm. It took about 15 minutes for the food to start coming around and then 40 minutes later we were told to basically hurry up as they were closing. One never wants to rush yum cha and I don't see the point in having a 2nd set time for yum cha when they are only going to give you an hour to gulp some food down, (which didn't come around too often mind you), in total. Aside from that, the food wasn't that great...way too much seafood and not much variety.
