Settlers Tavern

Known as a live music venue, this cafe, pub and restaurant is also particularly popular for its high quality but low cost meals. Located at Margaret River, there is a mixed clientele (from winemakers to surfers to family and tourists) and the kitchen offers a mix of cuisines. The main attractions are the freshly shucked oysters, and the mouth-watering fresh fish, beef, lamb and pork dishes that are often locally sourced too. But you'll also find a healthy range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free meals, as well as a few kids' meals to keep the youngsters happy. The wine list is impressive too, with more than 250 bottles, including more than 50 Margaret River specialties.

Gluten Free Menu
I recently visited Settlers Tavern whilst visiting the wine region. I was amazed that they had a separate full menu which was totally Gluten Free! I had a great main for lunch Fish of the day on a bed of lemon mash with salad, there were 2 portions of fish on the mash with a lovely fresh salad. It was very nice indeed. I really didn't have much room for a dessert but as my husband was having one I again looked for the gluten free option, the daily special was a fresh fruit pavlova it took awhile to arrive but when it did I could see why it took so long. The plate was a work of art! It had many fresh fruits and decorated with mango and strawberry sauces. Just devine! I would definitely recommend this as a Gluten Free must visit restaurant if you are in the area. It also has a great atmosphere too which is a plus these days!

Settling in for a great meal
Eating at Settlers was one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. From walking in and being seen to immediately by the staff, to the extensive (local and international) wine list, to the child-friendly environment, and finally, the great food at reasonable prices, you cannot beat it. The wood fire makes you feel at home immediately and the staff are always around but not in your face if you need them. Our 5 year old was given pencils and pictures to keep him amused, which he loved. The staff was extremely nice and friendly, noticed straight away that we had the gluten-free menus, not the normal menu, and swapped them for us, and had extensive knowledge on food, wine and beer menus! The seafood plate for 1 was huge, not all battered as is usual in pubs and restaurants these days, featuring scallops and prawns that were probably deep-fried but not lathered in batter, massive tiger prawn, lots of baby octopus and 2 nice bits of fish. The French lamb cutlets are perfectly cooked with lovely green veges on the side, only disappointment was the very dry mash and lack of sauce. The brownie is delectable, don t usually eat dessert but could not resist this one. Awesome value for money as well, rare in margaret river

ok option
If you're not willing to drive to the wineries it is a good, cheaper option right in town. Just be aware of grumpy travellers working behind the bar. I come back every now and then.
