Slick, sophisticated and serious about seafood, Sepia Restaurant and Wine Bar offers a casual city dining experience in a classic art deco environment of comfortable chairs, marble and brass tops and subdued lighting. Suitable for Sydney professionals searching for a new regular or visitors looking for a vibrant feast, this cosmopolitan restaurant and wine bar is far removed from the hurly burly of the CBD. The brainchild of award-winning seafood wholesaler George Costi and prestigious English-born Sydney chef Martin Benn (formerly of Tetsuya's and the Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay), Sepia marks a meeting of minds, with fresh local produce served in exciting contemporary Australian and international styles. Fulfilling the promise of its name, Sepia's wine bar offers more than 20 wines by the glass, ensuring that there's always something for the keenest of obsessive oenophiles.

Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "A classic aesthetic and sober-toned interior belie the novel and forward-thinking cuisine delivered by chef Martin Benn at Sepia, his first solo venture, writes Pat Nourse. "
Gourmet Traveller 2010 Australian Restaurant Guide - "Martin Benn is one of the brightest chefs Sydney has seen, and the news he was striking out on his own for the first time after years with Tetsuya Wakuda (and Marco Pierre White at London’s Criterion before that) had restaurant groupies intrigued."

Perfectly perfect... 11/10
I went to Sepia for lunch, not knowing what to expect as the restaurant is new and I had only read one review. The second I walked inside, I was awestruck with the atmosphere. The restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful. Dark textured walls, soft metallic velvety chairs... its all just works so well.
Then there's the food - Every once in a while you eat a dish that you know you will remember forever. It's rare you have three courses that all fit that description.
For my entree I ordered the Queensland Spanner Crab and Buckwheat Risotto with Mustard Butter and Shellfish Essence. It was simply divine. The nutty risotto and sweet crab meat worked so well together and was the perfect size portion. The shellfish foam was subtle, but perfectly tied all the flavours together.
For main I ordered Roasted Fillet of John Dory with Warm Salad of Poached Vongole Soy Bean and Olive Oil Emulsion. This dish was an explosion of flavour, and I have never tasted fish this good.
For my favourite course, dessert, I took the recommendation of the waiter and ordered Citrus Marshmallows with Pineapple Sorbet Mint Whip and Coriander Sprouts. This dessert would have to be the best I have ever tasted. A wonderful way to finish of a fantastic lunch.
The meal was complimented by a delicious red wine which was selected for me by the waiter, who got it in one. Delicious.
I will be back at least once a week.... at least. I've got the entire menu to work through.
