Part of the Schonell Theatre in the University of Queensland, this pizza joint is a popular destination for a pre- or post-cinema slice. Pizza chef Pietro Agnoletto churns out pizzas from a quirky menu of alphabetically listed options with names based on Italian movies and film stars. Vegetarians will be more than satisfied with a broad range that includes the Sophia Loren (baby spinach, black olives and gorgonzola), while meat-eaters might be happier with a Histoires Extraordinaires (cacciatore salami, oregano and anchovies). Pizzas can be ordered in advance so that they arrive promptly and steaming hot as soon as the movie ends.

Up to scratch!
Besides the numerous over-sized crows trying to grab some pizza, it is an excellent place with the freshest food from a cafe/restaurant I have ever had as it(the base and some of the toppings) is always made from scratch to order, good selection of beers on tap and bottle, good house wines, soft drinks, cold clean free water, San.Pel. and great coffee and standard cheesecake desserts. The only problem I think is the savoury selection doesn't include more than pizzas and a calzone, though they do have specials...it would be nice if they could maybe do a simple salad and meat or just salad for people who are socializing there but don't like either pizzas or calzone. That said, at least half of the menu is vegetarian, and they can make any pizza and probably the calzone with gluten free flour. For a place in a university, it is great and probably not surprisingly the staff are young and consistently working thoroughly, quickly and efficiently.

The best pizza in Brisbane
Anyone who has eaten an A and U and had a laden slice stolen by a pesky kookaburra can attest to the fact that the Pizza Caffe on the UQ campus has the best pizza in town, even beyond town, and possibly all the way to Byron (sorry guys). Alas, the Schonell Theatre is no more, but the Pizza Cafe hasn't missed a beat. Made fresh when you order, you will not find pineapple or a random form of processed meat on your slab of perfect crust. 25 pizzas and 1 divine calzone, all labelled by a letter of the alphabet, The Pizza Caffe pays tribute (through pizza) to famous Italian directors, stars and films. Crust is as it is, unleavened, lightly floured, crunchy where the topping runs out, firm and tasty under the fresh tomato paste and mozarella. They don't do 'puff' or whatever commercial companies call that stuff... Ingredients are fresh. Menu is original, classic and at once disparate. Staff are efficient and friendly. "Atmosphere" .. well, it's a University campus, and there are ibis .. But if you take some friends and endeavour to share a few plates with a carafe of cheap wine, you won't even notice. Plus, they do take-away!
