Sawasdee Thai Restaurant

Go to Sawasdee for polite service and consistently good food, not for the decor. When a diner's only view is that of a car park, it would be nice to have a few frills to feast your eyes on inside. Instead, it is all monotone mauve; even the humble fish tank could do with some interior decoration. There is always the food, of course, and here the menu offers a palette of vibrant flavours.

Proprietor and chef, Then Ly, gives his curries good depth of flavour and certainly isn't tight-fisted with ingredients. The seafood curry hotpot pleases with its supply of prawns, squid and mussels. Black fungus is an exotic inclusion on the guest list of ingredients in the garlic chicken dish. Thai pepper squid presents a generous serve of the beastie with an equally liberal dose of peppercorns. Pan-fried garlic pork is a treat, marinated in a special Thai garlic and coriander sauce. Soak up any remaining juice with some thirsty roti.

Delicious and reasonably priced
This little place out in the eastern suburbs has some of the best Thai food you can find in Adelaide. It's worthwhile to book as sometimes it can be surprisingly busy. It's a lovely place for a date and you have to try the tom yum soup! If you're vegetarian it has good vego options, just make sure to specify no fish/oyster sauce.
