Satsuki

Get set for stupendous sushi in Subiaco Square, the home of Satsuki, a unique Japanese restaurant that blends contemporary dining style with traditional Edomae-style sushi methods.

Sister to Ha-lu in Mount Hawthorn, Satsuki similarly thrives upon a tapas-style precept, where small groups are encouraged to order a succession of small dishes to share across the table.

This kind of setup is particularly suitable for the meticulously crafted and freshly cooked box-shaped sushi (Oshi sushi) that Satsuki serves at lunchtime, such as the Unatama, featuring six pieces of grilled Unagi eel with sweet soy sauce and lightly sweetened egg omelette sushi.

Dinner platters aid the communal consumption, displaying the chefs' fastidious preparation and innovation, as displayed in the signature Sushi Satsuki platter that features Edomae-style nigiri sushi of soy-marinated Zuke-style tuna, home-seasoned salmon caviar, Kobujime white fish of the day and much more.

Great little Japanese find!
Had a great dinner out with my dad at Satsuki. Both of us are huge fans of Ha-Lu - the sister restaurant to Satsuki- and in fact we both agreed that Satsuki gives Ha-Lu a run for its money!

Like Ha-Lu, Satsuki is a Japanese 'tapas' style, everything made for sharing.

Pictured on yourrestaurants.com is the Spicy Tuna Takati and we both agreed this was our favourite dish.
The others we tried (in our order of most favourite) was:
Soft Shell Crab and Oysters
Wagyu Beef Tataki
Prawn Tempura

The wine list is pretty average, go for a japanese beer! Service was fine, nothing extraordinary. The place itself is small and quaint, a cute little find.

I love Japanese
I have been to Halu many times and this place is run by the same people. Halu is more of a pecking type place where you share your meals and I love that but Satsuki is very different.
Seems to be designed to be main courses instead.
The food is fantastic.
The flavours are still in my mouth as if it were yesterday.
Service is good but as with most Asian places there is a language breakdown.
