So many Thai restaurants have tailored their flavours to suit the Western palate, but Saowanee has resisted and remained faithful to the cooking traditions of her homeland and it has paid off. As well as winning hearts, Saowanee's Place also earned the The Sunday Times gong for 'best Thai' in Perth in 2004. Originally from the resort island of Phuket, where the curries are particularly fiery, Saowanee is happy to go easy on the chilli and offers milder versions of her dishes. Opt for a mild green papaya salad with prawns, chilli, roasted peanuts, lime juice, plum sugar, snake beans and tomatoes, and you won't be disappointed. Sample the deliciously smooth and peanutty red Penang curry with prawn, chicken or beef or treat yourself to a lunch time special, where you can eat like a Siamese king for as little as $10.50. Of course, Saowanee offers all the Thai classics too, including wonderful wontons, sumptuous spring rolls, delectably light fish cakes, tasty tom yum soups and the ubiquitous pad Thai noodles, green and red curries. The restaurant is licensed, but you're welcome to bring a bottle or more of your favourite vino to wash it all down.

Great Thai Food - Reasonable Prices
We had been looking for a good Thai restaurant, so we invited friends to join us at Saowanee's. We shared several starters, then shared five different mains. All of us commented that it was the best Thai we had eaten in Perth; all the dishes were superlative. The bill came to just $28 per person, including corkage. The only drawback is that the place is small; reservations are definitely required.

Best Thai Food in Perth
We eat at Saowanees quite a lot and have never ever been disappointed with the food. The duck red curry is our absolute favourite and we always try to include a salad for their freshness. We usually start with chicken satays (can't get past them on the menu somehow!) and the soups are to die for. Vegetables are crisp, rice is tasty and Saowanee usually has something special on the menu to tempt you! If you want Thai food you can't go past this restaurant.

Curry, Red Hot
It's always a pleasure to eat at Saowanee's, and it's one of the few places in Perth where you can ask for a curry to be spicy, and it is actually spicy, thusly avoiding the customer/waiter ping pong of "I want it spicy" "How spicy?" "Spicy" "Really spicy?" "Yes" "How spicy is that?" "Just make it as you would in Thailand"
The curries are amazing, salads always fresh and delicious and the fish cakes to die for. Break out of the Northbridge strip and give Saowanee's a try.
