Cambodian is a cuisine that's not seen so much in Australia, which is strange, given our love affair with other Asian cuisines. In fact, Samari's claims to be the only Cambodian restaurant in Western Australia. So what should you expect from this rare bird? Given Cambodia's proximity to Thailand and Vietnam, plenty of similarities arise between the cuisines, though you find the Cambodian varieties less spicy.
Perusing the menu you will come across familiar dishes: satay sticks, tom yum, mee goreng. But venture into the traditional Cambodian and you will be rewarded with ban chow (a pancake filled with chicken breast, onion and beans sprouts and served with fresh herbs), prohok khteas (pork mince simmered in spicy coconut cream) and banh zung (a salad of chilled vermicelli topped with peanut-coated beef, sliced spring rolls, cucumber and bean sprouts).

A bit disappointing
I found my trip to Samari's Cafe a bit disappointing. We ordered spring rolls, red beef curry, chilli pepper squid, ginger chicken stir fry and fried rice. The chilli pepper squid was great, but the rest of the dishes were average. The service was OK however we wanted to share our dishes but they didn't provide us with any extra plates. The atmosphere was ruined by the number of people passing though the hotel lobby, in which the restaurant is located, the close spacing of the tables and the blaring TV.
Maybe it's a good place for lunch or dinner with a large group of friends.
