Located on the Aldinga Beach esplanade, Saltbush Bistro is inspired by its coastline and flora. Well travelled and learned in Australian food and wine, chef Kane Ellis's dishes pay homage to the seasonal produce of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Thankfully, he does not play with his food, knowing that quality ingredients need not be messed about.
The menu is strong on seafood, particularly among the entrees. Butter-soft, marinated calamari is grilled and served with a cooling watermelon salad dressed with lime. Sweet king prawns make for a dainty dish mixed with avocado, snow pea sprouts and raspberry vinaigrette. The richness of smoked salmon is well appointed to its decadent salad of asparagus and sauce gribiche. You'll be torn between poissons and poultry with the option of confit of duck leg with bitter leaf salad, walnuts and pickled cherries.
Mains move from the ocean to the pastures. Crumbed veal cutlet delights with stylish fontina cheese, prosciutto, nectarines and fiery rocket. Peppered pineapple and steamed bok choy snuggle against roasted pork belly. Round off your meal with a dessert of dark chocolate parfait, chocolate sable and poached cherries.

Great Night Out
I selected the Saltbush Bistro to cater, for fourteen of my family members. We were celebrating my parents 60th wedding Anniversary. Not one of us were disappointed. 1. The quality, quantity and presentation of the meal was the best I have had for some time. 2. Besides the odd mistake with mixing up meals, I found the waitress staff pleasant and couldn't do enough to make our day great. 3. The ambiance of the restaurant and sea views were just icing on the cake. I think anybody wanting a nice meal in a nice restaurant shouldn't miss the opportunity of dining here.
