Bland Bland Bland
Our (4 people) experience at Salt was very disappointing. The waiters showed great interest in us until we ordered our food and wine, after which it was difficult to gain their attention. The restaurant was extremely loud. The meals were bland and lacked any real flavour. I wondered if the chef had sampled his own cooking?? The prices were expensive and it was a waste of money. The fact that they weren't interested in asking if we had enjoyed our meal confirmed our belief that they didn't care! A little advice to Salt - stick to being a Bar and you might survive.

Not a good experience
We were a party of 30 and 35 the previous day celebrating a 40th birthday, in what I felt was going to be a great evening. The food choices were not good, and I had King George Whiting which happened to be approx 2 pieces 4-5" long definitely the smallest King George Whiting I have ever seen. We had bought a birthday cake into the restaurant at which we expected a cake cutting charge but were not expecting a cost of $105.00 at $3.50 per cut. I expressed to the manager that I thought this was excessive especially as 65 people had been brought into the restaurant, I found him to be rude, and subsequently we refused to pay that charge so we were unable to celebrate with the cake. The venue was extremely noisy and the food took a long time before coming out. All in all a very bad experience and would not recommend it for a group booking.

Outstanding service
I had read the reviews and wondered what to expect. The service was outstanding. Our waiter met us at the door and continued to look after us all night along with another young waiter. Prompt service with drinks and meal, and the 4 of us had a most enjoyable evening. We will be back.

Haven by the sea
The Marina at Glenelg is an undiscovered gem. At lunchtime the whole area is pretty quiet, which is a shame for the businesses, but good if you want a lingering lunch away from the hustle and bustle of Jetty Rd. The $10 lunch menu is a welcome addition to an area which can be overpriced. It offers simple suggestions and modest portions, but hey for the price, and that fabulous view, who can complain? My guest and I had the fish and chips. Quite good, and nice to have such a peaceful, beautiful location to enjoy them in.

Terrible experience
My experience of Salt was as part of a large group function, which may have altered the experience. The place itself is quite nice, good furnishings and cool lighting for the bar part.

Our bottles of water were only replenished when we asked. The food itself took, for my table, 45 minutes to arrive. I had a salt and pepper squid which was far too salty, and the salad was also salty, an interesting feat. Our party was due to move on to another location at a set time, some tables did not get their food until almost an hour and a half after we had ordered, others did not get it at all as we had to go, which the floor staff knew about. The final outrage was that those who had to leave without receiving their food were still expected to pay.

Hmmm
I'd heard loads of good things about Salt, so took some interstate guests there for Sunday brunch. Food was standard (and not what we ordered in 2 out of 4 instances), drinks were slow (coffee was cooling) and the staff were very preoccupied with a function happening that night. Weather was nice, though.
