Sakura Japanese Restaurant

Following the success of its parent eatery in Highgate Hill, Sakura Japanese is now a suburban favourite for many Coorparoo locals. Going past the usual sushi train, wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am approach, Sakura is a whole lot more relaxed. Their options include the requisite fresh sushi and sashimi offerings, as well as a la carte enticements ranging from teriyaki to tempura and seafood to vegies, all displaying an authentic Japanese touch.
Just to ensure you're bonding, Sakura throws in plenty of sake and Japanese beer for good measure. Drink up!

Never again!
A very disappointing experience for our family! We waited for over an hour for the food to arrive and when it finally did, they were served over 20 mins apart, not complete (no rice, no miso soup, no dipping sauce unless asked) and two of us got our orders wrong! The food was below average and very expensive!Service definitely needs to be improved. When customer expresses dissatisfaction, saying "I'm sorry" is just not enough. It was my son's birthday dinner, but Sakura had ruined it for him. We definitely do not recommend this restaurant!

Love this place
This is my favourite place to eat Japanese food. I almost always order the sashimi plate - Nobu has a great eye for for fresh fish. I also love the seaweed wrapped seafood tempura, the rainbow rolls, and the chicken mince ball skewers (can't remember the name) and the choices of sake are great too.

Not again
A very disappointing night at this restaurant, we waited 1.5 hrs for the food while the restaurant was not overly busy. Meals arrived 15 minutes apart and were very disappointing.

Great Japanese food - service not that great though!
My husband and I visit Sakura quite a lot as we live nearby.
We absolutely love the food however, the service does need improvement. There have been a few occasions when orders have been wrong.
We always have about 10 entrees and share. The dumplings, chicken yakitori, salmon teriyaki and edamame are big favourites!
Overall we love this place for the food and will go back often!

Not worth the wait
Having been here about a year before, I was looking forward to my return visit, but left very disappointed. Both waitresses were very friendly, but spread far too thin for the number dining that evening. It was 15 minutes before menus were brought, and only after requested, which became the theme for the rest of the evening. Our mains arrived 20-odd minutes apart, and two out of three were lukewarm. The "vegetarian options" consisted of one entree, three flavours of sushi roll and a rather unimaginative vegetable tempura as main - only 5 on a menu of about 40 dishes available to our vegetarian diner. The agedashi tofu is worth ordering, and was the definite highlight of the evening. We left feeling tired, dissatisfied, and overcharged.

Pretty Good
We've been to Sakura twice now but that is largely due to the food and the fact that we live nearby. The service leaves a bit to be desired from the time you are finally handed a menu to the time it takes to pay and finally leave. Bring cash because there were issues on both occassions with their credit card facility. Its a simple set up inside with nice enough ambience but its the quality and presentation of the food which gets the thumbs up.

Great Night out!
A group of 3 friends and I recently visited Sakura Japanese Restuarant and had a wonderful night. As we had all tried the "sushi train" style Japanese food but never an actual restaurant, we were all very new to all of the choices on offer and the wait staff could not have been more helpful. The food was wonderful and the staff let us dine at our own pace, no rushing us out the door or fussing around the table. Only when we looked really lost did any staff come to our rescue! We had a wonderful night - Thank You Sakura Coorparoo
