Sage Restaurant

With a warm and cosy interior and a Zen-like courtyard, Sage is deserving of its popularity among locals, who are well aware of their good fortune. Alfresco dining doesn't get much better in summer than Sage's courtyard - a fairy light-strewn space, gently illuminating a pond and neat greenery. The modern Australian menu features innovative and mouth-watering combinations of ingredients and styles. Changing frequently to keep things fresh and interesting, the menu might include such tempting combinations as Jerusalem artichoke and baby spinach with chive creme fraiche, or seared tuna with harissa.

Avid diner
Wow what can I say - it was an Experience.
The food was divine and amazingly presented. It is about time Canberra had a fine dining restaurant that is fine dining. These people are passionate about their food and service and it shows. Congratulations and keep up the great food and service. Perfect

Very nice experience
We have being going to Sage over many years and each experience was worse than the last except for the last time - a great improvement on the previous.
The service was acceptable but nothing to write home about. We enjoyed the new decor and al fresco area.
The food ranged from good to great. I thought the boullibaise was interestingly frothy but overly prawn flavoured. Everything else was really good.
It was a very good start and we are looking forward to going back.

Anniversary Dinner fell flat
First time visit. Had booked a week in advance but no record of our booking so placed in the very back corner with the sticky wicker chairs.
A very stuffy, trying to be fine dining restaurant that falls well short. Although service is excellent - first server tried to remember our order (2 people) without writing it down, then came back to write it down. Seems her friendly nature is more reliable than her memory.
After serving me raw scallops, the staff were very responsive in getting another serving which was quite tasty. However, after serving a well done steak to a medium rare order I was done with the meal.
Apologies were made but would never return.
Sage is a restaurant trying to punch above it's weight and failing miserably. It has a client base worthy of any bingo room and loud classical music which does nothing for the atmosphere.

A good choice
Thank you to the previous reviewers for steering me here. My contacts in Canberra have not eaten here, but they had only heard good reviews. We wanted good dining for a small family reunion (3 of us) and I was worried about the general issue in most other reviews about incompetant or arrogant service in Canberra. This place shines, the food is excellent, and the price worth while. I took my own bottle of decent Penfolds which avoided the wine problem I was going to have elsewhere.

quaint location
I've tried coming here a couple of times over the years as friends have suggested it.
Overall, they do quite nice things - from service to food to the wine list.
Though it has a had a slow trend downhill. The service can go from fun and attentive to cynical & slow. The food generally is a good experience, straying from the norm, but has also missed the mark and lacked balance. I've had a rubbery dessert here, which was part of a play on apples. It didn't work.
I know they can do better, I hope they can find their way again.

Wow...
I went here with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary, after the recommendations from several people. The staff were friendly and professional, the atmosphere was cosy and intimate and the food to die for!! This is fine dining at its best... I cannot go on about how much I enjoyed the food here (we had the oysters, scallops, lamb, waygu and vanilla custard), go and experience it yourself -you won't regret it!!

Memorable Valentines Day
My partner and I dined at Sage on the night of Valentines day. It was a meal to be remembered for a life time.
We had a 5 course meal with champagne on arrival. The waiting staff were professional and we were well looked after.
The pork belly was to die for, the best I've had in quite some time (will not be forgotten) and the pavlova was heaven.

Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates good food at one of Canberra's best kept secrets.

Sublime
Had a sample of the 'signature dish' tasting plates, the kitchen selected a surprise series of dishes for us and it was a superb medley of exquisite dishes. Dessert was a sumptuous highlight and I don't normally eat dessert. Some of the best food and presentation that I have eaten in many years.

An experience to remember
My partner and I dined at Sage last week after hearing about it from a colleague of mine. The experience will be remembered for quite some time. Staff were polite and friendly and the food was absolutely amazing and well presented. Sage is definately worth a visit.

Stand-out restaurants
If you love food, wine and pleasant atmosphere Sage is were you want to go. I went there last night for dinner for the first time and it will not be my last. The food was fantastic and shows that great pride has been taken in every little detail and the flavours are very well put together. First impressions are always good and Sage pulled it of with style.

Nothing better
One of the best dining experiences in Canberra I have had in years. The staff were welcoming and polite from start to finish and made it far beyond any other restaurant I have been to. The food was the thing that stood out most though. Entree fresh and light with mains filling but presented very very well. Over all fantastic, we shall be returning shortly.

Best in Canberra
When I first visited Sage I found it to be warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly, professional and made my experience all the more enjoyable.

I went with the degustation menu and found that the flavours were exciting and unique. The combination of wines with each dish complemented the food perfectly.

I would say that overall Sage would have to be one of the best restaurants I have been to in Canberra. I would highly recommend it.

Hidden treasure
I dine out a couple of times a week and have sampled all of Canberra's best restaurants. At Sage, I've had some of the best meals ever during the year.

Three things really stand out for me. First, the service - the staff are well-trained, are committed professionals and very hospitable.

The interior space (the outside is nothing special, alas, being part of the Gorman House setup) is cosy, especially at night, and is a nice size - the place can never get too busy. The tables are well spaced out, and it’s quite the comfort zone.

Finally, the cuisine is first-class and great value for money. Seasonal menus, very fresh ingredients and a deft touch in execution result in food that is delicious, thoughtful and makes your world a better place from the first mouthful.

Highly recommended.
